Month
MYRON LEE DISCOGRAPHY
Written
on 7.31.09
This is the seventh edition of the Feature of the Month for the South Dakota Rock & Roll
Music Association.
We are rock and roll fans, and looking to write a feature each month,
that will not only bring back wonderful memories, but
will also remind us all of the history that was made in
our great state of South Dakota. We are hoping to write a
feature each month selecting one of the many talented Bands, DJ's, Radio Stations, and Dance Halls
throughout SD.
From the time Myron Lee came on the scene in the late 1950's, it didn't take him long to dominate the S.D. music scene. "Big Band" was out and "Rock and Roll" was in. From 1958 to 1965 Myron released thirteen 45s
HOMICIDE (58)- Hep Label. This song, written by Myron, was his first record. It was recorded in the Twin Cities on a small label called Hep. For $400 he received 500 records.

RONA BABY (58)- Hep Label. Myron wrote this catchy ballad and initially called it 'Baby Baby' but changed the name to Rona, who was Caddy drummer Dick Robinson's sister. The song was also released on the Canadian Label Felstad.
MARY'S SWINGIN LAMB (59)- Soma Label. This novelty like song was written by Myron and Dick Robinson. It was recorded at Kay Bank Studios in the Twin Cities and released on the popular Soma Label. It is unique because it is the only Soma record with a picture of the artist on the label.
LOVERS HOLIDAY/MAGIC IN A SUMMER NIGHT (60)- Hep
Label. This record was also cut in the Twin Cities on the Hep Label.
BABY SITTIN (60)- Keen. After touring with Buddy Knox, Myron was directed to Clovis, NM and the studio of Norman Petty. He wrote this song while riding in the car to Clovis.

FROM NOW ON/SOMEONE I KNOW (61)- Jaro Label. This was the third consecutive record recorded in Clovis and was on the Jaro Label, a division of Rank Records. Norm Petty and his wife Vi sang background.
PETER RABBIT (62)-M&L Label. Most people associate Myron with this song, more so than any of his other records. Written by Sioux Falls resident Tim Smith, it was released on the M&L
label, a product of Myron and local DJ Bob Helgeson. It is still highly requested and played on "Oldie Stations".
TOWN GIRL/SCHOOL'S OUT (62)- Del-Fi Label. Both of these songs were written by national recording artist Dorsey Burnette. The record was recorded at United Studios in L.A. James Burton and Glen Campbell were studio musicians who played on the record and were paid union scale wages of $65.
SUMMERTIME BLUES/FAT MAN (63)- Garrett Label. Myron's version of Summertime Blues is one of the best ever recorded. The flip side, Fat Man, is an original composition.

EVERYBODY'S GOING TO THE PARTY (65)- ABC Paramount Label.
This catchy song was written by Tommy Roe. He also paid for the recording session in Muscle
Shoals, AL. Recording artist Felton Jarvis can be heard in the background as he is hitting a lead pipe with a crescent wrench. This record was destined for stardom but a big shakeup at ABC Paramount as the record was being released doomed its success.
