Born and raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Ray graduated from high school in the early 1950's. He then attended Brown Radio Institute in the Twin Cities. He then returned to his home town where he was hired at a local radio station. Ray later moved on to a bigger market in Denver.

Ray was the host of a nationally syndicated radio program, "Sunday at the Memories". During the 70's it was broadcast at over 100 stations and featured oldies, vintage programs, and old commercials. In 2005 Ray passed away at his home in Bismarck, North Dakota.
