The Castaways

In 1962 four high school students from the southern Twin Cities formed a band called the Castaways. They were Richfield High students Dick Roby(bass/vocals), Dennis Craswell(drums/vocals), and Roy Hensley(rhythm guitar/vocals) along with Bob LaRoy Folschow(lead guitar/vocals) from Southwest High School. A year later Jim Donna was added on keyboards. In 63-64 their popularity exploded and they were in demand for dances and shows. They even made an appearance on WCCO.

Donna and Craswell wrote a song in 1965 which would prove to be the group's ticket to stardom. It was titled "Liar, Liar" and featured Folschow's falsetto voice, which made the song so unique. It peaked nationally at #12 but in many metropolitan radio stations it was a #1 song and sold close to one million records. That led to television and movie appearances along with more recordings but they were never able to equal the mega popular "Liar, Liar" but their hit was featured in the movie "Good Morning Vietnam". The Castaways have been inducted into both the Iowa and Minnesota Hall of Fame.
