The Cavaliers The year was 1966 when six teenagers, three from Lake Preston and three from Arlington, decided to form a rock band. Greg Shelden, Dave Cecil, Ron Nelson, and Mike Peterson play guitar while Lynn Larson handled the drums and Dave Scheller was on keyboards. Like many bands, the boys started out playing school dances and local functions but as they gained experience and confidence their territory expanded. Soon they were playing in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Watertown, and other South Dakota cities. One of their favorite venues was the popular college bar Horatio's in Brookings. The band played together until 1969 and built a faithful following. Many people were disappointed when they disbanded and went their separate ways but that is not the end of the story. The guys got back together in 1987 for a 20 year reunion and the fun started all over again. Although they are scattered all over the country, they reunite occasionally to perform at special functions. Last year the SDRRMA selected The Cavaliers to be the house band at the first ever induction/concert and they responded with an electrifying performance. |
