Jimmy Thomas Jimmy Thomas was a drummer with several bands before eventually starting his own band, the Jimmy Thomas Orchestra. As the late fifties approached, the Luverne, MN resident was aware that young peoples taste in music was changing. Big bands and orchestras were no longer drawing big crowds and the kids were listening to something called rock and roll. His wife Harriet told him she about this new rock and roll band out of Sioux Falls. Before long Jimmy signed a five year contract with Myron Lee's mother(Myron was under age) and the rest is history.This career change proved to be very lucrative for both Jimmy and the bands he managed and booked. Many times Myron Lee has claimed that without Jimmy Thomas his career would have been entirely different. In addition to Myron, Jimmy worked with numerous other bands in the upper Midwest. He also operated the popular "Showboat Ballroom" in Lake Benton,MN. Jimmy is no longer with us but he will always be remembered for his contributions to rock and roll. |
