MILITARY PICKLE
The Military Pickle was formed in 1967 from two Brookings-area bands: The Last Rites and
Spectre. The band took its name from an ad for the Hayward Brothers’ pickle on a London double-decker bus that was pictured on a magazine cover. The Military Pickle affectionately became known as The Pickle.
The original lineup was Dave Adamson (lead vocals), Jim Wright (drums), John Behrend
(keyboards), Rob Dimit (bass), Dave Bugg (rhythm guitar) and Rick Lagerstrom (lead guitar). The band had a stable membership with only two lineups, which contributed to a tight sound.
By June 1967, the band was well rehearsed and began playing regular gigs. Frank Gengler, manager of Horatio’s in Brookings, hired The Pickle as the house band. Ron Borchardt became the promoter and manager. Later, Jimmy Thomas started promoting the band.
