The Highway Call Band, based out of the Arlington/Brookings area, plays a wide variety of music including classic rock, country rock, classic country, surf, doo-wop, rockabilly, blues, and occasionally jazz.

The band was started in 1985 by Curt Henry, Gary Thomas, and Mark Close. They were joined in 1988 by Jim Juntunen. They performed under the name Silver Creek for several years, but the name was later changed to The Highway Call Band to more accurately represent the classic rock sound of the band.

Over the years the band has played extensively in the South Dakota area including forays into Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska. The band has won several Wrangler Music Showdowns including at the SD State Fair and subsequently at the regional contest in Wichita, KS.

 The band members currently performing-

  •  Terry Church-drums, vocals
  • Curt Henry-bass, vocals
  • Gary Thomas-guitar, vocals
  • Jim Juntunen-guitar, vocals
  • Josh Juntunen-guitar, vocals (several times a year for shows at Skinner's Courtyard in Brookings, SD)

For the SDR&RHoF show these five members will be playing plus previous drummers Mark Werner and Dallas Meseberg on percussion

Our sax and keyboard player for many years Mike Nepodal passed away in 2014.

We've also had the pleasure of being the backup band for several area performers and have had many excellent South Dakota musicians sit in with the band over the years.

A more complete history is posted on the 'Highway Call Band' Facebook page as well as photos and notifications of upcoming shows.
