In August 2004, Gary Wilson had an idea to form a 60s rock n roll band. He called 4 musicians he thought would be interested and Surfin’ Safari was born. Original members included Gary Wilson-lead guitar and vocals, Ellie Mechels-keyboards and vocals, Kenny Young – rhythm guitar and vocals, Terry Comp – bass and vocals and Steve “Clancy” Troy-drums and vocals.

Numerous personnel changes since then brought Rick Burkhardt from the Troublemakers and Myron Lee & The Caddies on lead guitar & vocals replacing Gary Wilson. Shortly after that Dave Vanderlinde from the Troublemakers took over bass and vocals followed by Pam Hoffman on vocals in for Ellie Mechels. Sam “JR” Tulio replaced a succession of drummers and in turn was replaced by Chuck Case  in 2016. Present day lineup has Leader Rick Burkhardt and Dave Vanderlinde anchoring the group with Wade Stephens on guitar & vocals and Katie Wrede on keyboards & vocals filling out the band.

Surfin’ Safari is still entertaining in the 4 state area bringing your favorite hits of the 60s era to each venue. Their trademark “wall of sound” vocals bring the essence of the original recordings to every performance. As one of the last true working 60s groups, Surfin’ Safari is proud to play the music that started it all.
