Flood Music came to Sioux Falls in the late 1980's. Tom Kingsbury, who owned Flood Music in Sioux City, wanted to expand into South Dakota and chose a location on Phillips Avenue. Pat Rouse was the manager at the opening. The store was quickly a gathering place for musicians from all over the area. The store featured a lot of unique guitars and a large inventory of quality affordable amps and sound systems.

The store moved to Minnesota Avenue and expanded the choices of premium instruments and amps. Pat bought the store and continued the friendly-hang-out atmosphere. The store became known for top quality repairs when the guitar-tech wizard Pete Galindo came on full time. Ed Sandau and Bob Dafoe were also significant employees.

In-store artist concerts and meet-and-greets included Albert Lee, Steve Morse, Adrian Vandenberg and rock legend Rudy Sarzo. Impromptu jams were common and you'd often find a tour bus in the parking lot with touring acts filling up on needed accessories, rare instruments and the best guitar repair in the upper Midwest.

Pat sold the store in the 90's and moved to Arizona. Flood Music continued on with several owners and continued to provide quality service and equipment.
