I was raised in Minneapolis with childhood dreams of being a Minnesota Viking and later, the voice of the Vikings. I grew up around the industry. Mom worked at KSTP-TV and radio where she wanted me to be an accountant like her and I was more interested in what was going on in the studios. I went to Brown Institute and started in news in Rapid City, SD where again, I got interested in what was going on down the hall at the FMs. I moved to Sioux Falls in 1996 to help sign on 102.7 The Fox. I eventually rose to Program Director and saw the transitions to what became B102.7, Sioux Falls Classic Rock. I became heavily involved in the community as well, serving on committees and emceeing signature events like JazzFest, Hot Harley Nights, RibFest, RiverFest, Pork Palooza and many more for years. I helped raise a lot of money for charities through Cure Kids Cancer Radiothons, Make A Wish, and local fundraisers.
I quickly realized that this area also had an inordinate amount of really talented musicians. So I did what I could to promote them, recommend bands for opening slots for national bands, to getting them booked for festivals, and getting them some airplay on my show or the "Blues Fix at 6". I also helped in promoting and recommending artists for the Blues Series at the Hard Rock in Sioux City when they opened.
After 19 years at B102.7, I was offered the opportunity to build a station from the ground up: equipment, air staff, music, promotions. That became the short-lived KBAD and the Badlands. We had the chance to do a radio show on TV every morning for a year, host concerts a few feet from our studio and do promotions that friends in major markets were envious of.
Following the closing of KBAD, four of us started KBACK, an online streaming rock station that is still in operation today. I currently am a radio consultant and "voice guy" for a group in Little Falls, MN. It's been one hell of a ride!
