Pulse River Studio began in 1999 in the basement of Larry Olson and Karol Baer's home on the
west side of Sioux Falls, born out of Dakota Road, the music and publishing group Larry and
Karol had run since the 1980s. Joined by Scott Jibben, whose background spanned studio and
live sound work across the Midwest, the trio combined their passion for writing, performing, and
producing music into a shared vision.

In 2000, they broke ground on a dedicated studio space roughly 30 miles south of Sioux Falls —
a country setting free from city distractions, where the only interruptions were the occasional
tractor and the smell of fresh-turned fields. The studio officially opened in 2001, featuring a Pro
Tools HDX system, a C24 console, and world-class mic preamps, along with a spacious live
room, dedicated drum and vocal spaces, and even a shower wired for recording. A wraparound
porch and wooded backyard made it a retreat as much as a workspace.

For nearly 25 years, until closing in 2025, Pulse River Studio gave musicians a place to create
without distraction — recording albums, voiceover work, and production music for film and
television.
